Shaping the Future of Aussie MTB: Sea Otter Australia Partners with Shimano NEXTgen!

At Sea Otter Australia, we’re all about celebrating the culture, passion, and community of mountain biking. That’s why we couldn’t be more stoked to announce our partnership with Shimano Australia for the launch of their brand-new youth ambassador initiative: Shimano NEXTgen!

This program is set to empower the next generation of Australian mountain bike talent, and we are thrilled to share that Sea Otter Australia will be hosting the very first intake of NEXTgen ambassadors! Alongside our friends across all Rocky Trail Academy and Superflow events, we’ll be championing this amazing program to help young riders take their next big leap.

What is Shimano NEXTgen?

Shimano NEXTgen is much more than a standard sponsorship program. It’s a dedicated path designed to identify, support, and develop young Australian riders aged 16 to 21 who live and breathe mountain biking.

Here’s the best part: you don’t need to be standing on top of every race podium to apply.

While speed on the bike is great, NEXTgen is fundamentally about character, attitude, passion, and potential. Shimano is looking for community-minded riders who respect their peers, love encouraging others, and act as positive role models both on the trails and online.

What Do Ambassadors Receive?

The lucky riders selected for the program will gain access to an incredible lineup of development opportunities to help them grow on and off the bike:

• Mentorship: Get direct guidance from Team Shimano staff, pro athletes, coaches, team managers, and expert industry mechanics.
• Product Support: Gear up with access to top-tier Shimano products and equipment.
• Skills Development: Learn key off-the-bike skills, including bike maintenance & technology, personal branding, media training, social media best practices, and community leadership.
• Behind-the-Scenes Access: Gain valuable industry insights, explore career pathways within cycling, and attend exclusive launches and events.
