General FAQ’s
What Is Sea Otter?
Sea Otter Australia is a multi-day Cycling Festival held in Batemans Bay and Mogo Trails on the NSW South Coast. The event is organised by Rocky Trail Entertainment, one of the country’s major private mountain bike event promoters.
In a nutshell, Sea Otter Australia is the Southern Hemisphere’s only edition of the iconic Sea Otter cycling festival, established in California’s Monterey over 30 years ago. With Girona in Spain, Sea Otter Europe, our Festival is one of just two licensed global events. Launched in Batemans Bay and Mogo Trails, NSW, it’s a multi-day celebration of all things bike, blending world-class racing across disciplines (enduro, XC, gravel, e-bikes and more) with an expansive expo featuring the latest bikes, gear, demos, and deals.
Kicking off with a two-day Sea Otter Summit, the event brings together leaders in trail tourism, the bike industry, and government to shape the future of cycling in Australia. Then the action shifts to the multi-day festival— packed with racing, riding, and family-friendly activities—set against the backdrop of the newly built Mogo Trails, 125 km of purpose-built trails on Yuin Country.
Sea Otter Australia is more than a festival—it’s a hub for connection, innovation, and the growth of cycling culture in Australia.

About Inclusivity
Sea Otter is for everyone. Our vision is to create the most immersive mountain bike and cycling celebration Australia has ever seen, igniting a passion for two-wheeled adventures in everyone.
Our organisers from Rocky Trail Entertainment are dedicated to fostering a vibrant and welcoming community for all who share a passion for cycling. We believe that the thrill of the ride and the spirit of competition should be accessible to everyone.
With a commitment to inclusion, equity, and diversity, we strive to create environments at all our events that celebrate the unique talents, backgrounds, and perspectives of every individual.
We offer non-binary categories at our events, ensuring that participants of all gender identities find their place at our start lines.
We have also been working with the adaptive riding community and our industry partners to customise and adapt races and tracks so that we can provide a suitable experience offer to adaptive riders.
With 40+ cycling events along the East Coast, we recognise our opportunity and responsibility to lead by example. We are continuously listening, learning, and implementing changes to make a lasting and meaningful impact for our riders, volunteers, partners, and the entire endurance cycling community. Our goal is for everyone to feel welcomed, respected, supported, and valued, moving forward to the finish line together.
About Sustainability and Accessibility
Rocky Trail Entertainment respects and supports the pleasures of mountain biking and related self-reliant outdoor activities. As such we advocate that all of us have a big responsibility to protect and preserve the natural landscape for the enjoyment of future generations.
At the core of all our efforts to put together the annual racing calendar is, and will always be, the trails. We work with property managers and organisations, local councils and clubs and our goal is to deliver a versatile selection of terrain, regions and mountain bike trails, including adaptive trails. We include many regional trail networks as this gives more mountain bikers the chance to race on their local trails. It also promotes less frequented trail networks to visiting riders and encourages them to discover new trails.
Rocky Trail Entertainment understands the importance that our product offering is accessible to people of all abilities. The nature of the competitive activities that Rocky Trail Entertainment provides on off-road trails, will be limited for people with a disability. However, we want to be as accommodating for staff and guests of all abilities fosters diversity and acceptance, which resonates through to employee and customer satisfaction.
We have been working with the adaptive riding community and our industry partners to customise and adapt races and tracks so that we can provide a suitable experience offer to adaptive riders.

How we care about the Environment
Tread Softly, Ride Hard: Our Shared Commitment to the Trails
When we line up at the start gates or walk the expo floor at Hanging Rock and the Mogo Trails this October, we are occupying some of the most spectacular natural terrain in regional New South Wales. As riders, parents, and industry crews, we all share a foundational responsibility to protect the land that serves as our playground. For Sea Otter Australia 2026, sustainability isn’t an afterthought or a corporate checkbox—it is a live operational framework built into every square meter of the festival footprint.
To back this up, all Rocky Trail events including Sea Otter Australia are certified by Ecotourism Australia and are operating with integrated ECO Certification standards across the entire event delivery structure. This means our environmental policy aligns with verified ecological requirements, ensuring our presence leaves no long-term footprint on the native landscape. From trail care protocols to resource conservation, we are setting a clear benchmark for what a major international cycling festival can achieve. By committing to Ecotourism Australia Nature Certification our business joins fellow exemplary operators in terms of sustainability and provision of authentic, high-quality nature-based tourism experiences. The ECO Certification logo means that with Rocky Trail our riders and supporters are guaranteed to be part of a genuine and authentic trail-based nature experience that looks after the environment. The ECO Certification program assures that our certified events are backed by a commitment to sustainable practices and provide high quality nature-based tourism experiences.
Real Action on Waste: Eurobodalla Shire Council
We have teamed up with the Eurobodalla Shire Council Sustainability Team to completely re-engineer our waste management program. Instead of relying on generic public bins, the council team is helping us implement colour-coded, clearly labelled waste sorting stations across the entire festival hub.
They will also be assisting us with comprehensive on-site waste audits to measure exact recycling rates and identify areas for improvement. For our exhibitors and B2B partners, we are actively pushing a strict waste-reduction policy in the trade zones. We are asking all brands to minimise packaging materials before they arrive and to eliminate short-lived promotional giveaways entirely.
Joining the Global Movement: Trash Free Trails
Sea Otter Australia 2026 is officially a Trash Free Trails (TFT) approved event. We are partnering with the local TFT Australia team to foster a strict “Leave It Better” culture across every single race and demo stage. The TFT crew will be active on the ground with their custom ‘bin-bike’ to manage pre- and post-race course sweeps, ensuring no stray litter remains in the bush.
Our shared target with TFT is a roadmap toward a true Zero Trace Race. One of our biggest collective targets this year is eliminating the classic “gel end” – those tiny, jagged silver foil tear-offs from energy gel packets that clog up singletrack and endanger local wildlife. We are asking every competitor to tuck those tear-offs safely inside their sleeves or pockets, or switch to modern leash-style packaging. Learn more at TrashFreeTrails.au
What We Ask of the Sea Otter Community
Whether you are aiming for a podium, racing or riding with mates, exhibiting in the hub, or cheering on the crowds, you play a direct role in this plan. We ask that you bring reusable bottles and cups, utilise the free water refill stations, and strictly sort your rubbish at the designated bays.
Let’s make sure the only things we leave behind on the Mogo Trails are tyre marks and good memories.
