Rocky Trail Entertainment Leadership Heads to Global Stage as South Coast Racing Season Thrives
BATEMANS BAY, NSW – April 8, 2025 – The first week of April 2025 marks a significant moment for local mountain bike event promoter Rocky Trail Entertainment, as CEO Juliane Wisata, Head of Events Jo Parker, and Head of Summit Joe Mullan travel to California to attend the renowned Sea Otter Classic, the world’s largest cycling festival. This strategic journey follows Rocky Trail’s significant achievement in securing a 10-year contract to bring this premier mountain bike festival brand, Sea Otter, to Australia. The inaugural Sea Otter Australia Festival is set to launch in Batemans Bay and on the Mogo Trails in October 2025. After COO Martin Wisata and the Mogo Trails construction team attended the festival in Monterey in 2024, this year’s trip to the original event underscores Rocky Trail’s dedication to ensuring a successful debut for Sea Otter Australia and further solidifying the NSW South Coast as a leading global cycling destination.
The Sea Otter Australia team’s journey to the global stage comes at a time when Rocky Trail’s South Coast racing season is already demonstrating significant momentum. In March, the promoter held a record-breaking Narooma Fox Superflow® weekend in March, which included the inaugural Rocky Trail Academy schools competition and saw a 40% youth rider participation. The local Batemans Bay High School racers took home the infamous Rocky Trail Academy Schools Champion Title.
Following the Narooma races, Rocky Trail held the successful Willo Marathon at Nowra’s Coondoo State Forest on the weekend. As one of the major mountain bike marathons in Australia, the race attracted 320 competitors and a strong contingent of junior riders: one fifth of the racing field were under 19 years old. The start-line was stacked with high-profile marathon racers: Canberra’s former National Marathon Champion Em Viotto took out the women’s classification in 3h37.19 and Wollongong’s Nationally acclaimed endurance racer Kyle Ward won in the men’s by just over a minute ahead of current National Marathon Champion, Jon Odams from South Sydney.
Local team with a global vision
Rocky Trail Entertainment’s commitment is not merely organisational; it’s deeply personal and local. The principals relocated their family and businesses to Batemans Bay, underscoring their dedication to the region’s success. The company’s efforts are focused on activating the region’s exceptional trail assets, including the Narooma MTB Trails and the soon-to-be fully opened massive Mogo Trails network. Juliane and Martin Wisata have managed the detailed design and construction of Mogo Trails since late 2021 and securing the Sea Otter brand for Mogo Trails was a strategic move to ensure the trail network had a world-class event to maximise its potential from day one.

“At Rocky Trail Entertainment, our commitment to the NSW South Coast goes beyond simply organising events; we are dedicated to creating premier mountain bike experiences that deliver demonstrable and measurable returns on the significant investments made by both the NSW and Federal Governments in our region’s trail-based economy,” said Juliane Wisata, Sea Otter Australia CEO and one of the Founders of Rocky Trail Entertainment.
In 2024 alone, Rocky Trail’s South Coast events, including the inaugural competition on Mogo Trails, had over 1,000 athletes at the start line and generated over $650,000 for the Eurobodalla and Shoalhaven regions. Looking ahead, Rocky Trail is gearing up for the inaugural Sea Otter Australia Festival, taking place in Batemans Bay and on the Mogo Trails from October 24-26, 2025. Having secured a 10-year license for this prestigious global event, Rocky Trail aims to establish it as a flagship event not only for NSW and Australia, but as a key part of the international Sea Otter brand network.

Sea Otter Festival Line-Up Live
Sea Otter Australia aims to foster the growth of mountain biking across all demographics, attracting professional athletes, recreational riders, and the general public. The inaugural Sea Otter Australia anticipates attracting over 2,000 athletes and 3,500-4,000 visitors in its first year, drawn from Australia and key international markets North America, Europe, South East Asia and New Zealand. Rocky Trail is estimated to generate an estimated $3-$3.5 million economic boost for the NSW South Coast.
“Our presence at the Sea Otter Classic in California this week is a vital step in ensuring the successful launch of Sea Otter Australia and further showcasing the incredible potential of the NSW South Coast as a world-class mountain biking destination,” said Juliane Wisata. “We are a local team with a global vision, and we are passionate about driving positive economic and tourism outcomes for our region by activating our stunning trail networks and creating unforgettable cycling experiences.”
She said that Rocky Trail Entertainment has dedicated over 18 months to create this premier event and announced a major milestone for the event: the launch of the Festival line-up and event schedule. Unlike spectator-focused events and just like the original overseas festival, SOA actively encourages riders of all levels and ages, aiming to foster the growth of MTB across all demographics, skills and ambitions, she added.
“Like the original in Monterey, Sea Otter Australia features a huge range of disciplines for all skill levels. It’s not just for racers; it’s a multi-day immersive mountain biking experience attracting pro and amateur athletes and cycling enthusiasts from Australia and key international markets like North America, Europe, South East Asia, and New Zealand. With the inclusion of speciality junior racing for riders 10 years and up and a dedicated Kids Zone we want to ensure appeal across even the youngest demographics”, Wisata confirmed.

The festival’s heart is a dynamic Event Hub at Hanging Rock Sports Precinct at Corrigans Beach, showcasing over 150+ leading international and Australian cycling brands showcasing the latest gear, demo rides, exclusive deals, and chances to meet their cycling heroes. This hub will also serve as a space to highlight local businesses, the region’s culture, and destination information, offering a true festival atmosphere. Wisata announced that the event hub will feature a brand-new e-bike moto cross race and for the first time, a cyclo-cross race on the adjoining Corrigans Beach.
In summary the schedule includes three main festival days (October 24th-26th) packed with over eight official racing events like Gravity Enduro, Superflow®, and Marathon, alongside guided rides and bike demos on the renowned Mogo Trails. Junior riders will compete in the Rocky Trail Academy Junior Race for primary (Y5+6) and highschool juniors on October 23rd with further junior activities planned for the 24th.
This event is literally gearing up to become the premier cycling destination in the Southern Hemisphere, offering an immersive and engaging experience for all attendees. The festival is anticipated to provide a multi-million dollar economic boost to the NSW South Coast region through increased visitor spending, job creation, and industry engagement.
In July, a Mogo Mania event will return to Mogo Trails with the 2-day stage race format as the final race to get ready for Sea Otter Australia. Until then, Rocky Trail Entertainment remains committed to working with local stakeholders, sponsors, and residents to build a sustainable and thriving mountain biking community on the NSW South Coast.
