WHAT IS SHIMANO NEXTGEN?
Shimano NEXTgen is a youth ambassador program designed to identify, support, and develop Australia’s next generation of mountain bike athletes and community leaders.
More than just a sponsorship program, Shimano NEXTgen is about helping young riders grow both on and off the bike through mentorship, education, industry experiences, and opportunities to become positive role models within the mountain bike community.
Whether your goal is racing at the highest level, contributing to your local riding community, or inspiring others through your passion for cycling, Shimano NEXTgen is designed to help you take the NEXT step.
WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?
We’re searching for young mountain bikers who:
- Love riding bikes.
- Are aged between 16-21 years old when applying
- Reside in Australia
- Display a positive attitude and respect for other riders.
- Love to support and encourage other riders.
- Are active in their local cycling community.
- Want to learn and develop new skills.
- Represent the values of mountain biking both online and in person.
- Are excited to share their journey with others.
You don’t need to be winning every race to be considered. Shimano NEXTgen is about attitude, character, passion, and potential.
What will ambassadors receive?
Successful Shimano NEXTgen Ambassadors will receive access to a range of development opportunities, including:

Learn directly from Shimano staff, industry professionals, coaches, athletes, and ambassadors.

20026/27 – Year One Program
The inaugural Shimano NEXTgen program will launch in partnership with Rocky Trail Academy, Superflow events and Sea Otter Australia
Candidates will be identified and nominated through these development pathways before progressing through the application process.
Successful applicants will be selected before the 2026 Sea Otter Event and invited to attend with Shimano support
For the first year, Shimano will select:
1 x male ambassador
1 x female ambassador
This smaller intake allows for highly personalised mentoring and support.
